Of All The New York Slices, Prince Street Is King

New York City takes its carbs very seriously. We really take pride in this little quality, battling anyone who dares suggest things like “Chicago pizza is better” or “well anyone can go get a bagel at the grocery store.”

No. We win. That’s all there is to it. Give us a carb and we’ll load it, that’s just how it is. This is seen most prominently in our pizza scene.

A New York slice is what you can get for 99 cents when you’re a broke intern and need a snack. It’s what you need for lunch on payday because that hip place down the street sells by the slice. It’s what you wait in line for, only to eat standing up.

All this in mind, you have hundreds — thousands — of options for where to get your New York slice. What to do, what to do?! Don’t fret, I’ve sampled a plethora of cheesy goodness in the five boroughs (ok, admittedly not Stanton Island...if I’m missing out, please tell me). Throughout my detailed research, errrr munching, I’ve come to the conclusion that Prince Street Pizza is the most delicious in New York, nay, the universe.

But why, Lil? There’s always a line, sometimes the counter guys yell at you if you aren’t paying attention, and they don’t serve ranch?

It’s not easy being the best, and that goes for the customer as well. Sure, Prince Street is a no-nonsense, no-ranch establishment, but that’s part of its charm.

While you’re waiting in line, you can admire the pictures of celebs who’ve stood where you’re standing that line the walls.

If you are on your phone when you’re supposed to be ordering, you’ll be reminded to focus on what’s in front of you and not on your screen.

Without ranch overwhelming your slice, you can enjoy the mozzarella made IN HOUSE, the fresh marinara, and roni cups only previously seen in your wildest dreams. You’re witnessing heaven on a plate, and it’s oily and demanding your attention.

Can you tell I’m in love with this place?

Whenever I start talking about pizza, Prince Street is the joint that I choose to defend. It’s also the place I find myself walking 2+ miles for on any given day, because I know that I will ALWAYS be overjoyed with the product I receive.

Prince Street is the place I take people who are visiting New York for the first time. Prince Street is the slice I eat sitting on the curb in SoHo. Prince Street is the line I’ll stand in, happily, making small talk with my fellow pizza eaters.

There are a lot of New York slices out there, but Prince Street Pizza is the top dog.
